Lake Havasu City is a forward-thinking, progressive community that honors its small town values and idealism while embracing its cosmopolitan outlook. Geologically, culturally, civically and historically rich, and with so many different parks, attractions, recreational activities and destinations to offer visitors, a lifetime in Lake Havasu City wouldn’t be enough time for you to see everything our city has to offer!
At Lake Havasu State Park, you won’t want to miss events like the Lake Havasu Boat Show, the Sand & Water Expo, Bluegrass on the Beach, Buses by the Bridge, or the Rockabilly Reunion. Looking to get “down & dirty” with your neighbors? Sling all the mud you want at Lake Havasu’s Mud Madness 5K event! This event takes place at the fairgrounds, with over 15 different obstacles for runners to experience. Kids who are too young to run but whose parents don’t mind a little mud—there’s a special mud pit for kids to get as messy as they want, as well as some kid-friendly mud obstacles—bring a towel, and have fun getting “down & dirty”!
At the Havasu 95 Speedway, there are special visits scheduled year round from industry stars, including the Lucas Oil Modifed Series presented by Rockstar Energy Drink, ASA Speed Trucks, South West Tour Trucks, Vintage Sprints & Midgets, USAC Ford Focus Midgets, as well as our famous Mayor’s Race and Waterless Boat Race. Can’t get enough classic cars? Make sure not to miss the Relics & Rods Car Club’s Annual Run to the Sun Car Show, one of the Southwest’s largest car shows, where over 800 vehicle entrants come together for a night cruise through The Shops at Lake Havasu and a Show & Shine at the Nautical Beachfront Resort Golf Course.
Boaters “prime time” in Lake Havasu City runs from March to September, during which our city hosts some of the hottest events in all Arizona—and that’s saying something! Some of the year’s most favorite events on the water include the International World Jet Ski Final Races, multiple professional fishing tournaments, and custom boat regattas. The Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series additionally presents the Thunder On The River event on Lake Havasu’s Thompson Bay, whose spectator area is located in Lake Havasu’s Rotary Park. In addition to the mind-boggling speed and skill on display, there’s also a slower pace to enjoy at this event, with vendors, a beer garden and other activities for fans of all ages to take part in. SCUBA divers also are in on the community action, with events such as the Frozen Fin Dive, Underwater Easter Egg Hunt, Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest and Thanksgiving Turkey Dive livening up the Lake Havasu events calendar.
But of all the events there are to choose from in Lake Havasu City, there’s none as unique and as beloved as the Annual Havasu Balloon Festival and Fair, hosted by the Island Golf Course at the Nautical Beachfront Resort. Our “Eye Candy in the Sky” draws crowds in excess of 30,000 every 3rd weekend of January, during the Havasu Balloonfest. Our “Party in the Sky” is a breathtaking event where spectators can watch nearly 100 unique balloons cruising across the London Bridge and dipping into the lake. When the weather permits, there are scheduled mass ascensions each morning and afternoon, as well as balloons available for untethered and tethered balloon rides. Remember not to miss the pinnacle of the event, the choreographed evening “Night Glow”—every year, it’s a show-stopper!
